Understanding arm marking:
What is arm marking?
Marking your swimmers arm will help them remember what events they are swimming for the meet (and they look cool!) You can mark your swimmer yourself or find a coach the morning of the meet.
How to read the "markings"...
These numbers will tell you the event number, heat number and stroke.
For example: 3 - 2 - BR - this is event number 3. Heat number 2 and they are swimming breast.
Stroke:
- F = Freestyle
- BA = Back Stroke
- BR = Breast Stroke
- FLY = Butterfly
- IM = Individual Medley
- FR = Free Relay (All swimmers swim freestyle)
- MR = Medley Relay (Each swimmer swims a different stroke: 1st = back, 2nd=breast, 3rd=fly, 4th=free)
Relay Marking: This will designate the relay leg the child is swimming.
*R - 1 = first relay leg
*R - 2 **= 2nd relay leg **If its the Medley Relay this will be Breast Stroke
Individual Medley & Medley Relay Stroke Order
The order of the strokes in the Individual Medley, also know as the IM is:
- Butterfly
- Backstroke
- Breaststroke
- Freestyle
The order of the strokes for the Medley Relay is:
- Back
- Breaststroke
- Butterfly
- Freestyle
